Buzz Anderson

2013 - Spirit Award

Buzz’s family has been part of the business community for three generations - a full 125 years. It all started in 1897 with his grandfather, Hope Martin; continued with his mother, Faye Dorothy Martin Anderson and his father, Carl Anderson; and has remained with “Buzz” Hope Martin Anderson.

Buzz is an avid collector of the 50’s, 60’s, and Elvis memorabilia, including a life size statue of an early Elvis and a 1975 Pontiac Grand Prix previously owned and driven by Elvis. In 2010, Buzz and Donna Volker established Stardust Productions to produce Waterloo’s Tribute to the King Competition, Blue Suede Memories. This event’s focus is on keeping the memory of Elvis alive, bringing good entertainment and a good time not only to the people of Cedar Valley, but to all people who travel from all over the country to rejoice in the life and music of Elvis Presley.

Like Elvis, Buzz loved his mother. They traveled extensively and met many of the most famous and influential people in both the entertainment industry and the political arena. The loving relationship with his mother helped mold him into the person he is today, with his zest for life and appreciation of the performing arts.

Buzz brought the first Elvis impersonator to Waterloo and has sponsored many productions at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center. He is also an active producer at Hope Martin Theatre, where the local community playhouse performs. He has sponsored such shows as All Shook Up and Elvis Lives. Buzz’s history with the Hope Martin Theatre started in 1965 when he performed in the first play there.

Buzz is an avid world traveler and a big supporter of the Olympics, having attended eight Olympic competitions around the world. Buzz served in the National Guard for six years, and he’s served on the boards of many businesses and organizations. Buzz is currently very active in real estate, farming, investments, and the stock market.

Buzz is a people person with friends from all walks of life. He is a very positive person who provides a creative atmosphere in which to work. His optimism is infectious, and he encourages people to be the best they can be. His glass is always half full.

Buzz’s Motto: “Try to see the Positive in Life – We only go around once.”
