With the induction of the legendary Iowa Disc Jockey, Dale Wood of Oelwein's KOEL Radio, The Iowa Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducts one of Iowa's real rock radio pioneers.

Dale saw his radio career begin in 1946, in Tucumcari, NM. His talents took him to such locations as Clovis NM, Waterloo Ia, and finally to KOEL in Oelwein in 1955.

At KOEL, Dale quickly was promoted to the position of station manager and he soon found rock and roll was a big hit with the listeners.

Dale has been recognized as being on of the first radio DJ's in the state to start playing the rock format on AM radio.

As a way to promote his station and his ever popular show, he began to promote record hops and live appearances with the legendary hero's of rock and roll. Artists such as Buddy Holly & The Crickets, Jerry Lee Lewis, Conway Twitty, Dion & The Belmonts, Bobby Darin and Gene Vincent and His Blue Caps.

In 1957, Dale along with Leonard matter, brought Gene Vincent and His Blue Caps to Decorah's Matter's Ballroom for a sellout turn away crowd. That was the first time Matters featured rock and roll.

In 1967, Dale saw his radio career take him to Wichita, Ks and then later back to New Mexico. Today Dale and his wife Anita are retired and call Ruidoso, NM home. In his spare time, Dale does some work with the horse racing industry.
