IV Pauli began with Bruce Bowman, Mike Pickney, and Mitch Evans in the spring of 1980 after Bruce met Mitch at a New Year's Eve party. Mitch had already started organizing music plans with Mike, but when he met Bruce decided they should to recruit him.
Within their first year, the trio was asked by their good friend, Steve Moris, to add background vocals to an album he was recording. This album would later go on to become the highly acclaimed album Airborne, which excellent at West Minster studio in Otho, Iowa. Steve was already recognized all over the Midwest and in California as a funny man, but a very accomplished classical guitar player. It was always a treat to see them all together - like at Milwaukee Summerfest in 1981.
In 1982 BPE recorded their song "Air Guitar in D Major," which was selected by popular Quad Cities radio station 97X to anchor their album of local talent in Iowa. They did the same a couple of years later when they recorded "Poetry In Justice" for favorite Muscatine radio station, KFMH.
Eventually, Steve moved to California to pursue his solo comedy and music career, while Mike moved to Arkansas to finish college. In 1985 Steve moved back and got in touch with the guys; it was then that they decided to start a new band under a different name. They wanted something different; Steve, fresh from southern California, liked "Isla Vista" since he went to college here in Santa Barbara. From there, that evolved into IV and, with help from their sound engineer and friends, came up with Pauli who was a roadie with the band - IV Pauli was born.
IV Pauli began playing all over the Midwest, headlining and supporting acts such as Atlanta Rhythm Section, Pure Prairie League, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Cheap Trick, Quiet Riot, Greg Allman, Bad Company, and in 1992 with Herman’s Hermits.
Today, the guys are spread all over the Midwest; Mitch is in Grundy Center, Iowa, Bruce in Minneapolis, Steve in Hanover, Illinois when he's not performing on Princess Cruise Ships, and Rick and Jeff are currently in Northwest Illinois. IV Pauli continues to play at a high level with shows every year at the Diamond Jo Casino, Clinton Lumberkings stadium, and many other venues. Their tight harmonies, excellent musicianship, and a flair for fun in life make them a must see.
