Kevin Lind

2015 - Individual Artist

Kevin Lind entered high school in Laurens in 1969 and embarked on a long distinguished music career at the same time.  One of his first experiences singing professionally was with "The Educators", a local group with elementary principal Bob Larson, high school librarian Lon Bruggeman and pianist Florence Pohlman.

Upon graduation in 1973 he, along with the vocal music instructor, band instructor, a high school classmate and an underclassman, began playing as a group. In addition to vocals, Lind played bass keyboard. Their favorite gigs were in the Iowa Great Lakes Region, particularly Vern & Coila’s.

Upon graduation from the University of Iowa, Kevin began performing in the Fort Dodge area with other musicians and as a solo act. He was considered an accomplished musician on guitar as well as getting much attention as a singer.

He auditioned for the lead singer position in the Fort Dodge group called "Buckeye Band". Thus began an on again off again association that has lasted to this day, sometimes known as the "New Buckeye" or Kevin Lind and the Rock and Roll Reunion.

In 1993 Lind moved to Des Moines. Within the first year he had performed on the stage at the Civic Center, shared the stage at the Val Air Ballroom with Marilyn Maye and became a lead vocalist for Triad Studios where he recorded lead vocals for radio and television commercials.

Lind made a trip north to Junior’s Motel Recording Studio in Otho to produce two CDs: “People Need the Lord” and “The Wedding Collection.” He also produced and directed an original song written by his brother Wallace called “Song of Iowa” which he performed at the Iowa State Fair. As a member of a five-man acoustical group, he twice performed on the Simon Estes Amphitheater to great reviews.  Under the tutelage of his musical partner of more than 30 years, Jeff Bockoven, Kevin went back to then study his first love, piano.  After much hard work he became an accomplished keyboardist and enjoys playing the old R & R classics on "the keys."

Another summer found Lind performing on the Norwegian Cruise Line ship “The Windward” on trips from Vancouver to Glacier Bay, Alaska. He frequently joins his sister Terry Benson and good friend Father Paul Kelly to perform on St. Patrick’s Day. For nearly 30 years The New Buckeyes have performed in Ft. Dodge, Des Moines, Newell, Storm Lake, Laurens, Twin Lakes, the Iowa Great Lakes, Sioux City and the Wild Rose Casino in Emmetsburg.

In honor of his long career as an outstanding entertainer, performing throughout the state, Kevin Lind joins the IRRMA Hall of Fame Class of 2015.

Honoring achievements, educating youth, and inspiring artists.
