Shake, Rattle and Roll

The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association is shaking things up. To better serve musicians and music fans across the state, the Association is partnering with other nonprofits and expanding programming. A new partnership with the Des Moines Social Club, Hall of Fame Happy Hour features artists from the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame to help folks get past hump day. Each first Wednesday of the month, watch the best of the best in Iowa rock ’n roll music.

Kicking off the new series on February 7th is Cloud Ten. A classic rock group currently active in Iowa, Cloud Ten members include Joe LeValley of Waukee (drums/vocals), Kevin King of Des Moines (guitar/vocals), and Shane Von Holdt of Sac City (bass guitar/vocals). Joining the three members are Ryan Sather of Spencer (keyboards/vocals) and Don Myers of Madison, WI (guitar/vocals). King, Von Holdt, and Myers are Inductees in the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. Doors open at 5 pm and music starts at 5:30 pm. Admission is $5 at the door. Grab a loved one or just your dancing shoes and join the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association at the Barn at Okoboji on Valentine's Day for Cupid’s Ball. Cupid’s Ball is a new event in NW Iowa to help locals beat those winter blues. The Iowa Great Lakes-based rhythm and blues band Lake Patrol will be headlining the event. Lake Patrol was founded in the 1980s and has performed at numerous venues over the years. Members include Joe Cuttell (guitar/vocals), Brian Moore (saxophone), Dave Chapman and Jerry Jones (bass/vocals), Tim Horsman (keyboards/vocals), and Mick Buckley (drums/vocals). Tickets are $5 at the door. A King and Queen will also be crowned that night, so wear red if you dare!

Progress is moving forward nicely on the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame Museum. The new space will be almost three times the size of the current space and include a recording studio, instrument play area, indoor and outdoor stages, inspiration stations, Iowa band features, Hall of Fame wall, interactive exhibits for youth, a listening station, a radio booth, and much more! There are opportunities to be a part of the capital campaign at all donor levels. For more information, go to or contact Cindy Stanbro at
