The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame Museum is expanding to southeastern Iowa thanks to funding from Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation. Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association was awarded a grant to establish a satellite museum in Market on Main located in Burlington, IA. The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame Satellite Museum is slated to open June 23rd and will include artifacts from Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association’s rock ‘n roll collection. Details are being worked out, but tentative exhibits include Iowa Legends, Evolution of Recording, Iowa’s Rock ‘n Roll History, The Birth of Rock, as well as others.
Market on Main is a dining, retail, and entertainment destination located in the original Grand Opera House in downtown Ottumwa. Home to about two dozen crafters, jewelry makers, artists, and retail merchants, products range from pottery to eggs to books. In addition to shopping, there are several restaurants and a bar. The Market celebrates local talent with live events year-round. “We are excited to host an Iowa rock ‘n roll satellite museum,” says David Camphouse, Executive Director. “The Market makes a point to showcase talented Iowa-based musicians and artists and we feel this partnership is a great collaborative effort to both celebrate established artists and inspire the next generation of Iowa artists.”
Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation feels this partnership is a perfect opportunity for the community. “We are thrilled to expand cultural opportunities in downtown Ottumwa through this partnership with the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association. It is a perfect opportunity for the community to learn about Iowa’s rock ‘n roll heritage and the perfect venue to learn it in.” says Kelly Genners, Interim President/CEO & Vice President of Programs and Initiatives.
The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame Satellite Museum’s opening will kick off with a live music event on June 23rd. Details will be released once they are finalized. Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association says this is a long time coming. “The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association looks forward to expanding our activities to Ottumwa. As a statewide association, we have talked for a long time about the importance of having a bigger presence throughout Iowa.” says Joe LeValley, Board Secretary. “Thanks to the generosity of the Ottumwa Legacies Foundation and the hospitality of Market on Main, this dream is becoming a reality.” The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association hopes this is just the beginning.
