The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association is celebrating the Grand Opening of the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame Satellite Museum at Market On Main in Ottumwa with a daylong celebration of music that includes workshops, a ribbon cutting, viewings of the satellite museum, and an evening concert on Saturday, June 23rd.
The Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation awarded Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association a grant to establish a satellite museum at Market on Main. The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame Satellite Museum will be open to the public officially on June 23rd. This first ever satellite museum will include the following exhibits: Legends of Guitar (signed guitars from famous Iowa bands inducted into the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame), Iowa’s Ballrooms (how Iowa’s ballrooms significantly contributed to the music scene), The Birth of Rock (multiple displays of historic equipment, clothing, and posters from the 1950’s and 60’s - when rock ‘n roll was born), and Rocking At Home (how music was enjoyed outside of live performance from 1960 to the early 2000’s).
Starting at 10 am on June 23rd, music professionals will offer free workshops for guitarists, bassists, and songwriters of all ages. Details for these workshops are available online at www.marketonmain.org. After the workshops, all participants are invited to perform that evening at the concert. Rehearsal for that final performance will start at 11:30 am. Starting at 6pm, there will be an official ribbon cutting ceremony with the Music Association, Chamber of Commerce, and Ottumwa Foundation. After the ceremony, the youth involved in the workshops will perform alongside Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame Inductees. The evening will finish with performances by Harrison Lane, Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association All-Star band, and FreeStyle.
