The Thunderbolts - four high school students from the Carroll-Kemper High School decided to form a rock and roll band. They didn't know their idea would develop into one of Iowa's hottest rock bands of the '60s.
This group's first job was at the Carroll grade school, their only problem was they had no name. When they were about to take the stage, a bolt of lightning struck close to the school and the Thunderbolts were born.
The Band appeared in many venues across the state and opened for many big names such as Lonnie Mack, The Crystals, Lou Christie, Billy Joe Royal, the Champs and Beau Brummels and the Guess Who. One of their most memorable performances came when they were to open for the Byrds at the Roof Garden Ballroom in Arnolds Park. The Byrds failed to perform and the Thunderbolts rocked the house before a sold-out crowd.
1965 saw the release of their only record, "My Girl Sue"/"I want to See You Again."
