The Split

Second Band

2012 - Band

Band Members:  Bill Jarnagin, Garrett Anderson, Dominic Formaro, Mick Moylan

Bill Jarnagin formed the original Split Second Band with various musician friends back in the mid 1970's. They began playing private parties and weddings. A short time later, Bill was introduced to Mick Moylan, who became the band's permanent drummer. As the band's popularity grew, they moved up to playing in various nightclubs in and around the Des Moines area, including the famed Val Air Ballroom. In late 1981 the band dissolved as band members concentrated on raising their families.

In 1987, Bill received a call from Dan Sota and the result of that conversation was Bill joined a band known as The Nomad's. Garrett Anderson was the bass player for this band and the group was later renamed Danny & The Dreamers, at which time Dominic Formaro was enlisted as the band's drummer. Danny & The Dreamers enjoyed great success playing private parties, nightclubs, corporate events, and more. One of the high points for the band was backing Lou Christie & Wolfman Jack, and opening for Johnny Rivers in 1993 at the Ruan Greater Des Moines Grand Prix. Bill Jarnagin left the band in 1994.

In 1995, Bill and Garrett grabbed Mick Moylan and reformed the Split Second Band. They played an average of six to eight nights a month for the next 12 or so years. Venues included nightclubs, street dances, beach parties, corporate events and many other functions in the Des Moines area and beyond. In 2008, Mick retired as the Split Second's drummer and without missing a beat Dominic Formaro stepped in as his replacement reuniting with Garrett and Bill. The band has maintained the same level of success ever since. They played the Iowa State Fair for a couple of years and an annual event at The Boathouse Bar & Grill in Clear Lake, IA during the Winter Dance Party. A high point was opening for Pete Best, former drummer for The Beatles.

Through the years, the band has enjoyed entertaining people of all ages and all walks of life, nurturing many friendships from all over central Iowa and the Midwest. Bill, Garrett, and Dominic hope to carry on the tradition for Rock 'n Roll music in their journey and to see you soon at one their gigs. Keep Rockin!
