For the second summer in a row, the Iowa Rock 'n Roll Music Association is bringing back the Iowa Rock Music Camp here at Lake Okoboji. We will bring back professional instructors from the Des Moines Music Coalition as well as include some members of our Association's Hall of Fame.
We have extended the Camp to five days, giving our students the opportunity for longer instruction!
Learn how to write original music, produce songs, record your ideas, and gain the tools to help create music within a group or solo. We will dive into the creative process, share our talents, and learn how to collaborate as a group, all while being guided by real music professionals from the Des Moines Music Coalition and Iowa Rock n Roll Hall of Fame inductees!

Chill Mac
Chill Mac, hailing from Des Moines, Iowa, is a multifaceted hip-hop artist and producer with a deep-rooted love for authentic hip-hop. Drawing inspiration from timeless beats and samples, Chill Mac has masterfully crafted a distinct sound that sets him apart. He excels as a producer and can write captivating raps and deliver them effortlessly, showcasing a smooth flow and razor-sharp lyrical prowess. His ultimate mission is to revive the essence of genuine hip-hop and create music that profoundly resonates with the culture. With undeniable talent and unwavering dedication to his craft, Chill Mac undeniably stands as a powerful force in hip-hop.
Anthony Maldonado
Anthony "AMMixes" Maldonado is a highly experienced audio engineer with over a decade of industry experience. He is certified in Pro Tools, Auto Tune, Dolby Atmos, and Melodyne, demonstrating his commitment to staying up-to-date with the latest audio production technologies. Anthony is known for his dedication to delivering top-notch audio products that meet and exceed his clients' expectations. He takes great pride in ensuring that every project he works on is completed to the highest possible standards, and he works tirelessly to ensure that his clients are 100% satisfied with the results. Anthony has become a sought-after audio engineer in the industry, earning a reputation as a reliable and skilled professional. He continues to hone his craft and improve his skills, ensuring that he is always at the forefront of audio production technology.
Jordan Mayland
Jordan Mayland has worn many hats in the Iowa music community including being on the Board of Directors with the Iowa Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Association since 2021. He is a graduate of Central College where he studied composition, jazz, classical, and education. His current position as Program Manager of the Des Moines Music Coalition keeps him very involved in the local music scene by doing festival work such as 80/35 Music Festival and Gross Domestic Product, and music education where he oversees DMMC Music Summer Camps, after-school classes in schools throughout Des Moines, and youth events such as DSM Soundcheck and Soundcheck Fest. Jordan is a multi-instrumentalist who has played in bands such as Keepers of the Carpet, Volcano Boys, TiRes, The Wheelers, Mantis Pincers, Nuclear Rodeo, Electronidoll, The Thermal Detonators, as well as solo albums where he often plays most to all instruments. He is a recording artist, sound engineer, producer, educator, and first and foremost – a musician.
Courtney Krause
Courtney Krause’s thought-provoking style of writing not only encompasses the longing heart of a singer/songwriter, but also speaks to the varieties of circumstances faced in relationships, communication, and honesty. Taking a unique approach on Americana, her music is modernizing classic country, folk, sultry soul, and subtle blues in songs where both sides of the story are told. From Des Moines, Iowa, Courtney Krause's music has been featured on KCWI 23, KCCI 8, Iowa Public Radio (IPR), and KFGM Homegrown. From events like Little BIG Fest and 80/35, to annual volunteering at Race for the Cure, Women Helping Women, and JDRF. Significantly contributing to the musical growth in Des Moines, Courtney Krause has spent much of her time participating in local music programs and camps. Some include Girls Rock! DSM, Songwriting & Music Production at City Voices, and Des Moines Music Coalition's youth rock weeks & performances, collaboratively bringing places, people, and music listeners of all ages and backgrounds together.
Meet the Guest Instructors
David G Smith
Internationally acclaimed Artist-Songwriter David G Smith is an acoustic roots solo performer with a lyric-intensive style featuring guitars, a resonator, music, and a voice that range from dirt-funk to intimate. His music is a blend of Folk, Americana, Country & Blues. David was recently accepted as a Juried Artist with Noel Paul Stookey’s (Peter, Paul & Mary) Music To Life Org. He is a 2008 International Song Competition 1st Place Winner, a Robert Oermann DISCovery Award recipient, and a two-time ISC semifinalist. He performs at the prestigious Bluebird Cafe/Nashville where his shows are regularly sold out. David has released 11 albums, and Mary Gauthier and Keb Mo appear on 4 of them, including a duet with Mary called “Shine.” He has two nationwide #1 singles and four nationwide #1 albums including his latest release, Witness Trees on the Roots Music Report (RMR) chart. His single “River Gonna Talk” was a 2023 #1 add on the NACC chart. His songs have also placed in the Top 20 on Radio Guitar One and they have broken into the Americana Top 100. David’s songs have been featured on TNT, Lifetime Network, and Travel Channel and he has a string of indie & major-indie song-cuts. His last 3 albums have been accepted for Grammy consideration. Jana Anderson
Jana Anderson has an impressive resume filled with experiences working alongside music legends. She spent five years at Paisley Park with Prince and seven years as a backup singer for Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks, performing on television shows and in recording studios. She even collaborated with Don Henley in his recording studio. Jana's songwriting talents have led to her music being licensed worldwide, including a recording by 80s popstar Sheena Easton. Her music has also been featured in numerous commercials. She has released two CDs, one in the jazz genre titled "At Last" and another in country music titled "Never Say Never." Jana has had record deals offered to her for both of these CDs. As an original member of the band Synergy, she has won 20 "Best of" awards in Minnesota. Jana continues to produce and perform in the Twin Cities area, including at prestigious venues like the Chanhassen Dinner Theater and Crooners Supper Club. In addition to her music career, Jana is a vocal coach and teacher, having taught around 9000 lessons and helped students achieve success in auditions and live performances. She covers various aspects of popular music and stage presence in her teaching, instilling confidence and helping students develop their vocal range and technique. Jana's passion for the music business and performing is as strong as ever, and she is eager to share her knowledge and experiences with anyone interested.
Dean Davis
Dean Davis began playing drums at age 12 in 1962 and has been playing ever since, joining bands at age 14. In 1969, he began teaching private lessons after taking advanced lessons from Arnold Bode. Dean has taught hundreds of students of all ages. He founded a drum line for an African American athletic group and earned a Tri-M Music Honor Society and Honorary Life Membership Award in 2004 for inspiring young musicians. Dean played with notable bands such as West Minist'r and Locust, the latter of which had a nationally released album and featured on Billboard Magazine's top 100 list. Dean has played on church worship teams since 1988 and ministered in Uganda with a worship team in 2000. He was inducted into the Iowa RockNRoll Music Association Hall of Fame in 2002 and again in 2018 with a Matousek Family Lifetime Achievement Award. Currently, he plays with the horn band Lone Tree Revival and in various musicals and recordings in the Midwest and beyond.
